Collection: quartz
Namibia is a true paradise for quartz enthusiasts. The country's geological makeup, shaped by ancient volcanic activity and hydrothermal processes, has produced a diversity of quartz that is unparalleled worldwide. From crystal-clear rock crystals to the deep, dark morions, Namibian quartz is a must-have for any discerning collection.
The fascinating world of quartz
Quartz is one of the best-known and most versatile minerals on Earth. Chemically, it is silicon dioxide ( SiO₂ ) that crystallizes in the trigonal crystal system. In Namibia, quartz can be found in almost every conceivable variety and form, often with a purity that makes collectors' hearts beat faster.
- Rock crystal: The purest form of quartz is distinguished by its absolute colorlessness and transparency. Namibian pieces are often characterized by an exceptionally high surface luster.
- Smoky quartz: The elegant brown to grey hues arise from natural radiation exposure during its growth. Finds from the Goboboseb region are particularly famous for their color zoning.
- Amethyst: The violet variety of quartz is often found in Namibia in combination with smoky quartz, resulting in the sought-after "Brandberg amethysts" with their deep colors and complex interiors.
Unique growth forms from Namibia
What makes the quartz crystals from Namibia so unique are their often bizarre and architectural growth forms. These are created by specific pressure and temperature fluctuations in the deep layers of the earth in Namibia.
- Scepter quartz: A fascinating phenomenon in which a second crystal grows like a crown on an already existing "stem".
- Window quartz: These crystals have depressions on their surfaces that act like small windows into the interior of the stone and often reveal ancient inclusions.
- Skeletal quartz: Due to particularly rapid growth at the edges, hollow-looking, sculptural structures are created, which are often also referred to as elestial quartz.
- Features and care of your treasures
- With a Mohs hardness of 7, quartz is one of the hardest and most resistant minerals. It is insensitive to most environmental influences, but should be handled with care to preserve its natural luster.
- Cleaning: You can easily clean your quartz pieces with lukewarm water and a soft brush. A soft cloth is also excellent for removing dust.
- Light: While rock crystals are very light-stable, you should protect colored varieties such as amethyst or very dark smoky quartz from prolonged, extremely strong sunlight in order to preserve the intensity of the colors.
Discover the magic of Namibian soil and find the unique quartz piece that perfectly complements your collection. Every piece in our range has been selected with quality and aesthetic uniqueness in mind.
