Collection: Enhydro quartz
Welcome to our online shop for minerals and gemstones! Today we would like to introduce you to a true wonder of nature: the fascinating Enhydro quartz . The impressive Enhydro smoky quartz and Enhydro amethyst from Namibia, in particular, are considered absolute highlights for any collection. These crystals are not only visually stunning, but also carry a history millions of years old within them, in the form of primordial water trapped inside.
What are enhydro quartz crystals?
The name "Enhydro" comes from the Greek and simply means "filled with water." These quartz crystals are characterized by tiny cavities in which water bubbles were trapped during crystal growth. These bubbles are often mobile and move like small dragonflies through the crystal when it is tilted. Because this liquid has been sealed in since the crystal's formation, it is a kind of time capsule of Earth's history . In Namibia, these rarities are found primarily in volcanic rocks of the Erongo and Goboboseb regions.
Special features and varieties from Namibia
Namibia is known worldwide for the high quality of its enhydro finds. The combination of crystalline perfection and vibrant inclusions makes these pieces so sought after.
- Enhydro Smoky Quartz: These crystals from the Goboboseb region impress with their elegant smoky-brown hues, in which the bright water bubbles form a spectacular contrast.
- Enhydro Amethyst: Violet amethysts with water connections are found particularly at Brandberg. These are often additionally combined with tiny black hematite points or moving air bubbles.
- Dragonfly effect: Water bubbles that can move freely within their hollow interior are called "dragonflies." This is a sign of particularly high quality and a fascinating spectacle under a magnifying glass.
- Scientific value: The trapped liquid is often millions of years old and offers an unadulterated insight into the geochemical conditions of prehistoric times.
Features and important care instructions
With a Mohs hardness of 7 , enhydro quartz is robust and scratch-resistant, making it ideal for collections. However, there is one special consideration to keep in mind with these "water-containing" stones to avoid compromising their integrity:
- Temperature protection: Never expose Enhydro quartz to extreme freezing temperatures. Since water expands when it freezes, the internal pressure could cause the crystal to burst from the inside out.
- Light protection: As with all colored quartz (amethyst, smoky quartz), prolonged, extremely strong sunlight should be avoided to prevent fading of the colors.
- Cleaning: Gently clean your crystals with lukewarm water and a soft cloth. Chemical cleaners could damage the surface and should therefore be avoided.
- Storage: Store your Enhydro treasures in a dry place at room temperature to ensure optimal conditions for preserving the liquid.
Enhydro quartz from Namibia is far more than just minerals – it is a living wonder of nature that perfectly combines the magic of the elements water and earth.
